With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?

I was in Toronto with my partner who is a paralympic basketball player with Team Canada and we drove back across the country to be with family in Kamloops for the first 5 months of the pandemic. During that first fall, I took to Tik Tok and with some incredible fan support I was able to raise 98k on the platform to provide my partner with stem cell treatments to help with his severed spine. We have since taken 3 of the 4 planned trips and had several treatments in Columbia and will finish up with the 4th one in the new year.

How has that affected your plans for the coming year? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?

The plan was always to keep touring and showcasing music. I moved to doing some shows online on FB and Tik Tok and explored those platforms. I released an album during Covid in July 2021and have all new music planned for 2022.

What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home? How are you supporting your mental health through all of this?

My best friend took her life this year and in my free time in the months following, I started a candle company with my partner (he wasn't able to play basketball either). It's called PoCo Candle Co and I wanted a way to honour my friend's beauty, and pain and to recognize her loss of life. One of our candles is called Lost In The Forest and proceeds from this candle are going to support Crisis Services Canada and their helpline and to honour all of those loved ones we've 'lost' along the way.

How are dealing with the Covid fifth wave? Have things locked down again in your region? Have you had to cancel gigs, tours, etc.? Are things reopening & restrictions are lifting in your region? Have you booked any new gigs, tours, etc.? What are your plans for 2022?

I played an amazing event at the Mary Winspear in beautiful Sidney, British Columbia recently and have multiple inquiries for upcoming shows. I am also a third place winner with Canada's Walk of Fame and RBCx Music and there are several shows planned with this program. There are still restrictions in place in BC with some potential new ones being announced today.

Favourite Starlite Room Moment?

I celebrate every Starlite moment that has kept the dream of live performance and music alive over the last few years. It has been a time that has had me reconsidering my career and future and support like yours is the glimmer of hope that inspires artists like myself, struggling in today's climate.

Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?

I hope that despite current conditions, that you are valuing your time with loved ones, whether that is through zoom or face to face. As cliché as it sounds, life is precious. Thank you for listening to and sharing my music, it is the greatest thing that you can do to support an artist. If you enjoying the peace of being at home for Christmas or if you're an introvert, then my recent release 'Christmas at Home' might be what your playlist is missing. May your family be safe, your fires be warm, and your hearts be full. xoxo - Madison
